Department of Infectious Diseases as a specialty is focused on optimal management of infectious complications with appropriate diagnostics and judicious antimicrobial use.The present status of ever increasing antimicrobial resistance coupled with an increasing population of immuno-compromised patients has intensified the need for a trained specialist in evaluation and management of febrile illnesses & infections. The rapidly progressing field of pharmacokinetics & pharmaco-dynamics of antimicrobial therapy needs a specialist input for bringing the concepts to bedside.
Patient safety is the prime goal of any health care delivery system. Preventing infections in the patients, visitors and employees in the health care facility is the focus of Division of Infection Prevention & Control. The unit monitors for all aspects of infection prevention starting from environmental and device disinfection to antimicrobial consumption, from training of staff in appropriate techniques to incidence of surgical site infections.
