The Department of Pathology at PRS Hospital offers advanced diagnostic services, including histopathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, and clinical pathology, all adhering to international standards. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, our laboratories are seamlessly integrated with the Hospital Information System (HIS), ensuring clinicians have easy access to reports during consultations. PRS Lab prioritizes a patient-first approach, with each division collaborating effectively to deliver optimal care.
The department actively participates in both internal and external quality assurance programs and holds ISO, NABL, and NABH accreditations. The Histopathology department is currently in the process of obtaining accreditation.
The Haematology lab at PRS Hospital is well equipped with state of art automated equipments and has systems in place to diagnose various haematological conditions. Clinical pathology department is equipped with semiautomated urinalyser and handles urine and body fluid testing.
The Department of Hematology regularly participates in external quality assurance programs, such as the EQAS CBC,peripheral smear and reticulocyte count in Hematology with AIIMS, New Delhi, and the EQAS coagulation in Hematology with Christian Medical College, Vellore
The histopathology department of PRS Hospital examines and submits diagnostic histopathology reports on surgical specimens of human tissues referred to it from the clinical departments of PRS Hospital and also from other medical centres in the city and beyond.
The technical staff has been well trained for tissue conservation practices, delivering good quality sections, complimenting H & E with special stains.
The rapid intra-operative diagnosis and margin assessment is provided in-house by frozen section.
The cytopathology section receives body fluids, FNAC material, and exfoliative cytology, including gynaecological smears. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is performed in the laboratory on superficial and palpable swellings. Image-guided cytological aspirates of deep-seated lesions as well as Pap smears are also processed.
Additionally, we accept samples, slides, and paraffin blocks for review as part of our referral facility and offer second opinions when necessary
